More than 80 juniors from the Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College at Ole Miss had the opportunity to travel to Boston for the annual Junior Quest trip, and I was lucky enough to be one of those participants! We conducted capstone thesis research and professional interviews while exploring Boston.
We left super early the Monday morning after finals, and when we got to Boston that afternoon, we had the chance to network with Ole Miss alum in the area and then explore the town.
The next day I headed to Fenway Park to meet with Claire Durant, a Red Sox employee that works in Business and Government Affairs. I learned a lot about her career path and what her job entails. A small group of us got a private tour around Fenway after; it was so fun learning about the history and seeing the park!
That afternoon my friend Elizabeth and I met with a rep from Invest in Girls, a nonprofit in New England that empowers and equips young women to learn more about financial literacy and pursue degrees in the world of finance. I look forward to the work we will continue to do with Invest in Girls as we bring the concepts back to Oxford!
I spent most of the next day in Cambridge visiting Harvard University. I met with employees in the Graduate School of Education and the Department of Social Studies to learn more about their work. I also took a tour of the Harvard Business School (MBA Class of 2021?!?!)
We loved visiting the Museum of Fine Arts with our friend Ali who is an art major. She showed us around, and it was really cool seeing such a wide variety of old and new pieces.
Boston was an incredible city, and if it had not been so cold, I might’ve stayed forever!!! I am extremely grateful for the SMBHC for such an amazing experience!
