I am SO excited about where I am beginning my career in Higher Education and Student Affairs…. THE UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA! Accepting a job in Student Activities and Involvement as a Program Coordinator mid-semester during a global pandemic is no small undertaking, and life has been an exciting whirlwind as I wrapped up my time in Oxford and made the move to Gainesville.
Through this role, I will be tasked with revamping, restructured, rebranding and reimagining the campus programming board, a student group that plans events on campus for their peers. I am thrilled for the opportunity to bring this student organization out of the COVID-19 era and work to bring exciting and engaging campus events to the students at UF.
After I accepted the role at the end of January for a mid-March start date, I knew I had to move quick to get my ducks in line for the move. Making plans to move to a place I had never been before was a bit daunting, but it was an exciting adventure finally visiting town to explore housing options, packing and moving all of my belongings to the Sunshine State.
I have been so warmly welcomed by the staff, students and everyone I have met. As I approach the one month mark on the job, I am so grateful I got a head start on this move to see campus in action before the summer break begins.
I can’t wait to go back to Oxford for graduation to formally end my time in Mississippi with a clear vision of what my future holds beyond graduate school.
I am so excited to see what is to come in the land of the gators! Chomp chomp!
